Hedges are sheared level and square, and shrubs are shaped back to size — trimmed, not scalped down to bare wood. That goes for tall arborvitae screens, rounded foundation shrubs, junipers, and shaped topiary alike. Clippings are cleaned out of the beds and off the lawn and hauled away when we’re done.
Trimming fits well alongside weekly maintenance and a fall cleanup. If a shrub is too far gone to shape back, rip-outs and brush removal makes room for something new, and a fresh layer of mulch finishes the bed.
